When I started doing these little faces about a year ago I felt compelled to give each one a name. I thought that after a while I might run out of good interesting names, so I started collecting them. Whenever I heard a good name I would write it down. Now I keep two master lists in my studio (male names and female names). I've drawn well over one hundred of these faces now, and the more I do them the more they seem to name themselves! Often when I finish one, I lean back in my chair to have a look and a name just pops into my head. Sometimes this happens even before I'm finished. They have very distinct personalities. They all spend about a week in my studio before they are purchased on ebay. I feel like I know them in a way. I think of them as an ever-growing community of characters in my head. Maybe someday their stories will be told. I hope so.
